Introduction

CSCF currently evergreens the Schools services hardware on a 8 year cycle (Lifespan=8) with a 4 year next business day on-site warranty.

Critical services applications "migrate" to warrantied hardware.

A "DFSc" private cloud storage node set of three is purchased every other year with only one half of their storage bays filled. Researchers may purchase drives (in sets of 3) to place in the empty drive bays. (Once Researcher owned drives warranty expires they are removed from the system.) Any remaining empty drive bays are filled the following fiscal year.

Ugster cluster nodes are divided in half, each may (will likely) have it's own hardware specification. In order to "balance" the year-to-year budget those halves are then again divided in half, to have one set ordered a the end of a fiscal year and the other set (of the same hardware) being ordered at the start of the next fiscal year. For an example see "Teaching: Cluster Nodes" line, columns 1 and 2 (one half of cluster) and columns 5 and 6 (other half of cluster). Or maybe it's just easier to think of them as two clusters (older one and the newer cluster.)
